While some of my friends were surprised, i was surprised at their surprise!! This was always on the cards. This has been the record of all previous govts. and i didn't expect this Congress Govt. to do any better.... hell, now we may see some protests and the Gandhi family will prevail and get the increases reduced a little... and then keep harping about it for the next few months!!
I think there's a need for a deeper evaluation of the taxation policies of petrol/diesel....... not only are the subsidies for products such as LPG and kerosene ill-conceived/ill-administered, they also are used as a tool for manipulation/exploitation of the poor!!
One question....... what is the movement of inflation-adjusted prices of petrol for the last 30 years? Is this generation really paying more that the previous generations for petrol?? I think this should give us some answers for the policy going forward!!
